Reels of Our Soul is a personal collection of films that didn’t just entertain me—they spoke to something deeper. These are the stories that stirred my emotions, shifted our perspective, or quietly changed the way I see the world. Each movie here left a lasting imprint on my soul, and this space is where I share how and why they did.
Roy Recommends the Following Films:

Priest (1994)
Watching Priest showed me the deep struggle of a gay clergyman trying to live with honesty and integrity, and it made me see my own story reflected on screen. It gave me the courage to accept that being both gay and called to ministry is not a contradiction, but a truth I can live out authentically before God.

Rustin
Watching Rustin challenged me to reflect on the courage it takes to live authentically at the intersection of multiple identities. His story pushed me to examine my own fears and biases, reminding me that true change begins when we embrace all of who we are.

Gandhi
This movie showed me how Gandhi’s peaceful protest revealed the power of nonviolence in the face of oppression. It also challenged me to see that true freedom comes from living authentically and courageously, even when the cost is great.

Places in the Heart resonated deeply with me because it reflected the pain of loss, the injustice of segregation, and the harsh realities I knew growing up, including the KKK’s presence and the struggles families faced when a father was gone. The final Communion scene reminded me that even in the midst of brokenness, grace and mercy have the power to unite and heal.
